History of St. Charles

St. Charles was founded by a French fur trader in 1769. The town was originally named Les Petites Cotes after the hills in the area. Its name was changed to St. Charles in the early 1800s. St. Charles was incorporated as a city in 1809.

St. Charles Schools

The City of St. Charles School District has six elementary schools, an intermediate school, a middle school and two high schools. The district received the state's Distinction in Performance Award six times between 2006 and 2011. Private schools in St. Charles include Duchesne High School, St. Cletus School and Immanuel Lutheran School.
