History of Olivette

Olivette began as a small farming community that was settled along an old Indian trail now known as Bonhomme Road. The town was incorporated in 1930. Due to its convenient midpoint location between two major waterways, it was used as a wagon stop for travelers going between the Port of St. Louis on the Mississippi River and Howell's Landing on the Missouri. Olivette currently encompasses close to three square miles of land and is home to approximately 8000 residents. The community is primarily residential.

Schools in Olivette

The Ladue School District, which includes four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school, serves all of Olivette.  Old Bonhomme Elementary School, with a K-5 enrollment of 450, is located in Olivette. Ladue Middle School, serving grades 6-8, and Ladue Horton Watkins High School are nearby. In 2011, Newsweek Magazine rated Ladue High School in the top two percent of public schools in the nation. It boasts a ninety-five percent graduation rate and offers myriad challenging and exciting activities for students to join. Several private schools are also located in Olivette.
