Attractions in the Washington area include parks, historic buildings and wineries. The James W. Rennick Park is on the riverfront, and visitors can picnic and go boating here.  There are walking trails at Bernie E. Hillermann Park.  A walk through downtown Washington will take visitors past buildings from the 19th century including the Schwegmann House, the Pacific Railroad Depot and the Lange Building.  Balducci Vineyards is one of the wineries less than five miles from Washington.  Some of the town's annual events are the Bar-B-Que and Blues Festival in April, the Washington Town & Country Fair in August and the Holiday Parade of Lights during the Christmas season. 

History of Washington

Relatives of Daniel Boone were some of the early settlers in the Washington area at the beginning of the 19th century. German families began moving to the area in 1833. The city was established in 1839.

Washington Schools

Washington's public schools are part of the School District of Washington. The district has eight elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. This district also serves the nearby town of Marthasville. Private schools in Washington include the Washington Montessori School, Immanuel Lutheran School and St. Francis Borgia Regional High School.
