History of Des Peres
The city of Des Peres takes its name from the nearby River des Peres which flows across the region. Various Native American tribes such as the Osage and the Cahokia have lived in the Des Peres area for centuries, far predating its modern settlement. Europeans, primarily Germans, began settling in Des Peres in the 1800s, working as farmers and merchants. In 1834, the Des Peres Presbyterian Church was built in the burgeoning city. Today, Des Peres is one of the many cities and suburban towns in the St. Louis metropolitan area of eastern Missouri.
